Intermodal Transport
Italy ⇄ Sweden

Combined transport between Northern Italy and Sweden in our own cranable trailers: road only at both ends, the long main leg by rail and ferry — up to 28 t per trailer and 58–66% less CO₂ per tonne than road.

one contract

Freight between Italy and Sweden covers a long distance, which is exactly where intermodal transport pays off. Instead of a truck driving the whole way, EFFIMODAL collects your loaded trailer by road, moves it on the main leg by rail and ferry, and delivers it by road at the other end. You deal with one contact, one contract and one invoice for the whole chain.

How It Works

  1. Road collection. A truck picks up the loaded trailer at your site in Italy or Sweden and takes it to the intermodal terminal.
  2. Intermodal main leg. The trailer is lifted by crane and travels the long-distance leg by rail and ferry. The cargo itself is never touched or re-secured.
  3. Road delivery. At the destination terminal a truck collects the trailer and delivers it to the consignee.

Transit time and schedule depend on the lane — your exact collection and delivery points. Ask for your schedule and we will plan the chain for your shipment.

Typical Cargo on This Lane

Heavy, dense goods benefit most from the extra payload per trailer:

Equipment

We run our own cranable curtain-sided trailers: 13.6 m long, up to 28 t payload, with 2.65 m side access for forklift loading from both sides. Cargo securing is included — straps, edge protectors, anti-slip mats, distancing boards and pillows. In combined transport the gross weight can be 44 t instead of 40 t by road.

CO₂ on This Lane

Per tonne of cargo, well-to-wheel, intermodal against the same shipment by road. Both scenarios are full loads, and the intermodal figure includes 150 km first and last mile by truck:

Per tonne of cargo, well-to-wheel, compared with all-road: 58% between Verona and Southern Sweden (Malmö), 65% to Central Sweden (Eskilstuna) and 66% to Stockholm. Both scenarios are calculated as full loads, including 150 km first and last mile by truck.
