Who Moves Trailers by Intermodal to Denmark?
EFFIMODAL is a combined transport operator registered in Riga, with its intermodal hub in Lübeck, Northern Germany. Combined transport is our core product, not a side service. We plan the chain — truck to the terminal, the intermodal main leg, truck to the consignee — and run it with rail and ferry operators in our own cranable curtain-sided trailers. You deal with one contact, one contract and one invoice for the whole trip to Denmark.
Where Shipments to Denmark Come From
- Northern Italy: Verona and Segrate (Milan area), with collection by road in the surrounding regions — see intermodal transport Italy to Denmark.
Aarhus is part of our network map, with ferry connections to the Baltic States and Germany. If your shipment starts somewhere else, send us the collection point and we plan the chain for your shipment.
How Intermodal Transport to Denmark Works
- Road collection. A truck collects the loaded trailer at the shipper's site and takes it to the intermodal terminal.
- Intermodal main leg. The trailer is lifted by crane and travels the long-distance leg by rail, with a sea leg where the route uses one. The cargo itself is never touched or re-secured.
- Road delivery in Denmark. At the destination terminal a truck collects the trailer and delivers it to the consignee.
Our hub in Lübeck is connected to Verona by rail, and our planners coordinate collection, terminal, departure and delivery. Transit time and schedule depend on your exact collection and delivery points — we confirm them with the quote.
Why Intermodal to Denmark
- No weekend driving bans on the main leg. The long-distance leg is not affected by weekend, night or holiday driving bans, by congestion on major corridors or by driver availability and rest time rules.
- Road only where it is needed. Drivers are needed only for the short road legs at origin and destination — fewer tolls and less fuel than an all-road trip.
- Less handling, less risk. The cargo stays in the same trailer for the whole trip, with no transhipment between modes.
Trailers and Cargo
We run our own cranable curtain-sided trailers: 13.6 m long, up to 28 t payload, with 2.65 m side access for forklift loading from both sides. Cargo securing is included — straps, edge protectors, anti-slip mats, distancing boards and pillows. In combined transport the gross weight can be 44 t instead of 40 t by road. Heavy, dense goods benefit most: metals, timber and wood-based panels, paper rolls, cement and construction materials, machinery and beverages.
CO₂ on Routes to Denmark
Moving the long main leg from road to rail cuts CO₂ per tonne of cargo; how much depends on the chain. We calculate the estimate for your lane with EcoTransIT World (ISO 14083 / GLEC methodology) and include it with your quote. For the lanes we have already calculated, compare your own volumes in the CO₂ calculator: intermodal vs road. How we calculate: green transport in Europe.
